Wyoming Man Killed in Utah Rollover Accident

Dean Monasmith,66, of Wyoming was killed in a Utah rollover accident off Interstate 80 in Summit County, Utah on May 11, 2010. Monasmith was driving east on I-80 near the border between Summit and Salt Lake County in a Chevrolet Suburban towing a Dutchman camper. At around 4:15 p.m., the Salt Lake Tribune reports that the trailer began to fishtail. He lost control of the vehicle, which caused the vehicle to whip around and roll into the median. Monasmith was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the Suburban. He was found in the far left lane on the westbound side of the freeway. Authorities took him to University Hospital where he died.

I offer my sincerest thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Mr. Dean Monasmith. I wish them the very best as they attempt to cope with this tragic loss.

Rollover Accident Statistics

Rollover crashes are one of the most significant safety problems for light vehicles especially light trucks like pickups, SUV's and vans. There are more than 225,000 rollover crashes each year, and nearly 10,000 fatalities per year. This accounts for 29% of all light vehicle fatalities. Vans, SUVS and trucks are in 127% as many rollover crashes as normal passenger vehicles. A vast majority of deaths are caused when either driver of passenger is thrown the vehicle during the rollover accident. Typically those thrown are not wearing a seatbelt.
