West Jordan Chiropractor Brandon Lee Babcock has been charged by prosecuting attorneys with various counts of exploiting the elderly. According to KSL News, West Jordan chiropractor Babcock, 37, is alleged to have committed 10 counts of exploitation of a vulnerable adult and communications fraud. These are all second and third-degree felonies.
According to charges, Utah chiropractor Babcock “advertises that he is from the ‘Functional Endocrinology Institute of Utah’ and claims to be able to cure diabetes and other health issues.” He advertised that all new patients would receive a free consult and would have 30 days to “opt-out” if they wanted to. Prosecutors say that Dr. Babcock still charged potential patients tens of thousands of dollars even after they expressed disinterest in the program. One 74-year man was billed over $10,000 even though he told Dr. Babcock that he was no interested in the program. Prosecutors also allege that this chiropractor would take out loans for his patients in the name of Chase Health Advance without the patient’s permission. Babcock is currently being held in the Salt Lake County Jail. Click here for his booking profile.
I’m a West Jordan personal injury attorney with an office just down the street from this doctor and have seen the good that chiropractors can do. That’s why these allegations are particularly disturbing. Doctors are supposed to first “do no harm.” If these allegations are true, than this doctor has brought harm to his patients as well as shame to the chiropractic medical profession. And what will become of his current patients? If I were them, I would look for a substitute, competent West Jordan chiropractor pronto as it may be possible that Dr. Babcock will likely not return to his office any time soon!
The above views are the express opinion of attorney Ron Kramer. All criminally-accused suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
