Taylorsville Pedestrian Crosswalk Accident Ends with Community Service for Man

posted March 26, 2010 | by

A judge in Salt Lake City, Utah agreed to dismiss a negligent homicide charge against Paul Riddle, 18 months after he pleaded guilty in the death of a school crossing guard whom he struck during a snowstorm in December of 2008. Jim Smith was struck by Mr. Riddle’s vehicle in a crosswalk outside of Bennion Junior High School on December 16, 2008. He died about two weeks after being hit. Third District Court Judge Royal Hansen sentenced 52-year-old Hansen from Taylorsville, Utah to community service after he plead guilty to the lesser, misdemeanor charge, in the death of 77-year-old, Smith. KSL news reports the “failure to yield” charge and speeding in a school zone were dropped.
