A 36 year-old man caused an accident in St. George, Utah Tuesday, March 13, 2012 when he ran a red light on Sunset Boulevard. According to The Salt Lake Tribune, a man was driving his GMC Yukon through the intersection of Westridge Drive and Sunset Boulevard when the driver of a Monte Carlo ran a red light and struck the Yukon causing it to roll over. The driver of the Yukon was ejected from his vehicle and broke his neck in several places. The driver of the Monte Carlo attempted to walk away from the accident when an EMT, who was helping the victim, spotted the man. Officers immediately caught and detained him. The man was taken to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, driving as an alcohol-restricted driver, negligent collision and other offenses.
I offer my best wishes to all those injured for a quick recovery to the victim.
Fleeing from an accident is never okay. It is completely unacceptable, especially when there were serious injuries involved. It’s also against the law and could be an expensive ticket.
Legally speaking, the victim of this St. George Utah DUI accident has a claim against the person who caused this wreck and probably would also be able to make a claim on his “under-insured” motorist policy. His neck injury sounds very serious and it sounds like he may need fusion surgery. I hope his spinal cord was not damaged in the accident as this would be a life-altering personal injury for him. I would recommend that the vicimt contact a Utah accident attorney to discuss all the remedies that may be available in this situation.
