One Child Ejected in Ogden, Utah Auto Accident

Two children were hurt and taken to the hospital after a car crash in Ogden, Utah on May 26, 2010. The accident happened at the intersection of North Street and Wall Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. According to the Ogden Police Department and abc4.com, a Dodge Caravan was traveling west bound on North Street and attempted to make a left turn onto Wall Avenue in front of another vehicle. The vehicle traveling in the east bound lane, hit the Caravan near the left read tire and caused the back hatch to open. The van was carrying five children and one of those children, a three-year-old, was ejected out the back of the vehicle. The child that was ejected and one other were taken to Primary Children’s Medical Center. No citations have been given as the crash is still under investigation.

I wish the two young children well as they recover from their injuries.

It appears that the driver of the van might be cited for “failure to yield”. Utah law requires that vehicles making a left turn without an arrow yield to oncoming traffic. I do advice that the mother of these children contact and experienced Utah personal injury attorney who can help her make a claim with the insurance on behalf of her children.

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 6. Parents are encouraged to leave their children in some type of restrain seat until they are 8 years old or when they are 4′ 9″ tall. Children who are properly restrained until the proper age, height or weight requirement are significantly more likely to survive serious auto accidents. For more information about child safety seat requirements, visit the website of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
