Bountiful Rollover Takes Woman’s Life

Misty Moore Affleck, 33 years-old from Farmington, Utah, died from injuries sustained from a rollover accident on May 21, 2012. According to KSL News, Affleck was just leaving a friend’s house and was backing out of her driveway, located near the Eaglewood Golf Course around 4 p.m., and apparently drove too close to the edge of the driveway.

Her SUV went off the driveway and rolled down a tiered rock wall for about 30 feet, landing in a resident’s back yard. Officials say she was partially ejected and that the SUV had come to a rest on top of her. A passerby noticed the rolled vehicle and called authorities. There is no mention of whether she had her seat belt on or not.

I send my deep condolences to the family of Ms. Affleck for this tragic loss.

As a Utah accident and injury attorney, I wonder if more could have been done to keep off-course vehicles, bicyclists, big wheel riders, and others from falling down this hill. From the pictures, there doesn’t appear to be any guardrail, fence or other barrier to prevent motorists and others from accidentally going down this hill. It seems that this was just an accident waiting to happen. Unfortunately, this accident proved fatal.
