Davis Stanger, 60, was hit by a car and killed November 14, 2010, as he was riding his bike home from work along Lone Peak Parkway in Draper. Now, a 17 year old has turned herself in, saying that she believes she was responsible for the fatal hit and run accident. The girl reports that she was driving along Lone Peak Parkway around 8 in the evening when she says she hit something. She got out to check, she says, but couldn’t see anything. She initially thought she may have hit a mailbox. The girl’s mother, upon hearing the news report regarding Mr. Stanger, questioned her daughter, who admitted that she may have hit a bicyclist.
With this confession, I would encourage the family of Mr. Stanger to consult with an experienced Draper Utah bicycle accident attorney regarding possible remedies that may be available. This type of case would be considered a “wrongful death action” with a shortened time period for making a claim (2 years) and with a statutorily-defined list of parties who could make such a claim (the victim’s spouse, parents or children).
